Seasonal vehicles, such as boats and RVs, provide hours of fun in warm weather. From rides on a lake to fishing trips, a boat gives individuals or families near water many options for activities. But, what do you do when the weather becomes cold? For some, this may include putting the boat in a garage for the winter. Those who don’t have a garage, however, need to find a different solution. In many cases, a portable boat garage provides the shelter your vehicle needs. The boat will stay under the enclosed canopy for winter and be protected from moisture, UV rays, and rain.
Leaving a boat – or any vehicle – outdoors for an extended period of time can cause damage. Although this may not be immediate, the wear and tear of simply staying exposed to the elements shows over time and shortens the live span of the vehicle. Boats left in the sun, for example, will start to have faded paint and cracked plastic on the surface. Additionally, the moisture or water left on the surface of the vehicle will cause mold or mildew to build up, which also damages the surface of the vehicle.
A boat garage is made from a galvanized steel frame and a polyethylene canopy. This enclosed canopy is made from heavy-duty polyethylene and treated to be waterproof and UV, mildew, and rot resistant. A boat garage comes in several sizes: some are large enough to fit one boat, while others can accommodate multiple boats or cars. Each shelter comes with a front roll-up or zipper door for full enclosure.
When storing your boat in such a shelter, make sure that the frame is fully secured into the ground before anything is placed inside. The boat itself, additionally, should be free of water, as the vehicle might be internally damaged if water freezes inside. The boat, then, should be placed inside the fully-enclosed garage and can remain there for several months; the shelter is designed to withstand snowfall, rain, and high winds. As the owner, you should check on your boat ever so often just to make sure that no mold, mildew, or dry rot has formed on the surface and that no animals are living in the shelter.
